Putin's Russia: How It Got That Way, 2023

104" x 72"
Paper postage stamps, silk thread, cotton, linen
Like these Russian stamps issued from 1944 - 1991, many countries have used stamps to promote propaganda. The themes of these stamps are of Soviet aggression, severeness and the glory of the communist party. They celebrate Lenin, Marx, war, battleships, revolution and cold war spies.
The information on each stamp is in Cyrillic and each stamp is dated. An English database of Russian stamps, by year, reveals the description of each stamp. A booklet with the identified stamps in English accompanies this work.
There are approximately 6,000 stamps in this piece.
